Roscommon CCC are hosting a recruitment week for the Early Learning and Care (ELC) and School Age Childcare (SAC) sector in County Roscommon from Monday 26th April 2021 to Sunday 2nd May 2021.The event will be an online event hosted on Roscommon CCC Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/roscommonchildcare/
The aim of the event is to highlight a career in childcare and support ELC & SAC childcare services throughout County Roscommon with recruitment. Videos from practitioners/services working within the local sector will be available on our website and face book page and details of current vacancies in a wide range of roles will be available on our jobs board https://www.roscommonchildcare.ie/jobs-board/. Local stakeholders such as colleges and the education training board will also contribute with their experiences from students’ perspectives.
Irene Cafferky County Childcare Coordinator/Manager of Roscommon CCC stated that ‘Our ELC and SAC services have gone through a difficult period with Covid 19 and have continued to provide essential services to children and families. “A Career in childcare is one of the most rewarding where you have the opportunity to enhance children’s overall development, provide positive learning opportunities and assist our early learners to reach their full potential”. We hope that this recruitment week will assist with matching those interested in a job in the childcare sector with potential employers in County Roscommon whether that be early years practitioners/teachers/catering staff/ancillary staff or volunteers.

Current Profile – ELC/SAC sector in County Roscommon
Currently there are 62 Early Learning and Care (ELC) and School Age Childcare (SAC) services in county Roscommon with a registered DCYA reference number availing of the national childcare schemes. There are 22 services offering full day care, 11 services offering part time care, 18 services offering sessional services, 8 SAC stand-alone after schools. There is 1 Tusla registered Childminder. In addition, there are 2 Brothers of charity services catering for children with additional needs. There is also 1 special education autism unit in Athlone funded by the Department of Education.

Roscommon County Childcare Committee (Roscommon CCC) role is to support parents, children, families, Parent & Toddler groups, Childminders, and childcare providers with the implementation of the National childcare programmes throughout County Roscommon. We deliver the Tusla Child Safeguarding training, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion training and governance/HR supports to the childcare sector in County Roscommon. Roscommon CCC administer Parent and Toddler, Childminding Development grants, the learner fund bursary for people working in childcare who have completed level 7 and level 8 degree in Childcare, and FAR funding, the first aid qualification requirement for childcare providers and childminders in the county, we also assist childcare services with Capital funding applications. We work collaboratively with local and national agencies. CYPSC, Roscommon County Council, Roscommon LEO, RIDC, BoC Roscommon, GRETB, Pobal, Childcare committees Ireland, Roscommon Library service among others.
